SEH Commercial is main contractor for Wembley School renovation.
Lyon Park Junior School is close to the famous Wembley football stadium and has been the subject of a recent major refurbishment programme where SEH Commercial has been the main contractor. In addition to handling the fenestration programme throughout the school buildings, SEH Commercial has also managed concrete repairs, roofing upgrades, electrical rewiring and the construction of a new access ramp.
“This shows that more and more clients are relying on SEH capability to deliver the whole programme of repairs and renovations. Our one-stop-shop capacity speeds up the whole project and makes communication so much easier. SEH takes responsibility for each aspect and can bring our One Group resources to bear for a faster completion,”explains Glen Swatman, SEH Commercial MD.
SEH Commercial’s core task has been the replacement of more than 120 window units at Lyon Park, the result of which in the words of school caretaker Alex Harry has brought “new light” into the class rooms and activities halls.
Built in the 1930s, the original buildings have been updated and expanded over the decades but the Governors determined that 2014 would see the main structures brought right up to date. The original black iron, single glazed windows have been replaced with white, thermally efficient UPV-c double glazed windows. In the activities halls the tallest window units are fitted with Teleflex remote opening controls to allow top frame opening with ease. These light-load winder mechanisms have geared drive to reduce the load on the operators’ wrist and arms.
Nikki Yudin, head teacher at Lyon Park which welcomes 920 pupils aged between 7 and 11 years old is delighted with the new fenestration.
“The SEH team have done a beautiful job for us and the windows bring us much more light and the school looks brighter now. They have worked night shifts from 5pm to midnight so that we did not disturb the pupils and have been very conscious of the safety of the children. It is a very good job and I am very pleased with the neat and tidy site that the SEH men maintained.”
